This site enables patients in Canada and the U.S. to rate their doctors or dentists. Rating categories include punctuality, helpfulness, and knowledge. Scores range from 1 to 5, where 5 if the highest. Since anonymous ratings and comments are permitted, there may be a temptation for some patients to submit extreme comments, or even for doctors to write their own reviews. The webmaster reserves the right to edit the site to remove material which may be libelous. Many doctors question the validity of the site and characterize its information as “gossip”. They would prefer that patients report serious problems to the proper medical disciplinary agencies.

It is a good beginning (ratemds.com). If we can check other professions out before we pay them big bucks, why not MDs. Word of mouth advertising is not always totally reliable. Looking at the site there are many MDs with a 5 rating (and of course a lot with lower ratings). The average person only needs to look up a few MDs. Hopefully a lot of MDs will tune in to check their own name and learn a bit. A patient can often not verbalize what they can type on this site (fear of being fired by their MD).
I use mdjunction.com, they have all the rate your doctor features and there is much more community stuff there.
